Hi. How Are You?

So I’ve been absent here for a little while. Okay, a month and a half. Sorry. But it’s all been for a good reason. I’ve been knee deep in revisions, again. And I have to say, this time around, it’s completely different.

You see, in addition to working through the notes from beta-readers, I’ve also been taking part in a class offered by one of the publishers I queried last year. Thankfully, they hadn’t responded to my query yet, so taking this class will benefit us both. At least I hope it will. The class has covered everything from pacing to conflict and tension, setting and scene, characters and dialogue. All stuff that I know, but yet somehow, seeing it from another perspective, suddenly made it more clear in regards to what my manuscript was lacking.

So, as a result, I have spent many hours working through the 94,000 words that I poured out onto the page, in hopes that when I release it into the wilds of querying again, it will find its home and become something more than just a file on my computer.

This experience has also taught me that all things related to books, publishing, writing, editing, more editing, take time. More time than anyone ever tells you when you first start out as a writer. As much as we would like it to happen instantly, overnight, right now, that’s not how this works. And anyone who says differently, probably has never done it. So there’s that too.

Now I have one more week of class left, and about 40 more chapters left to revise. Of course, depending on what I learn this week, I may go back through the manuscript one more time. And if the weather persists, at least I’ll have something to keep me occupied while I’m holed up inside.

And will break all records set for the past 70 years.
